Madelia, Minn. – Madelia Health plans to open a new family medicine clinic early in 2024 in downtown St. James. They have purchased the St. James Federal Savings and Loan Association building located at 501 1st St. Ave. S., on the same block as the Princess Theater. Converting the building from a bank to a clinic will begin later this winter and spring.

“Madelia Health will offer high quality health care in St. James five days a week,” said David Walz, CEO of Madelia Health. “For years, many of our current patients from St. James have been requesting that we start a clinic in their town. Our successes in Madelia and then in Lake Crystal and Truman have enabled us to expand services to yet another rural community.”

A primary care provider will be available at the St. James Clinic Monday through Friday providing care to patients of all ages. Care will be provided for acute illnesses and minor injuries, chronic disease and medication management, immunizations, well-child care, sports physicals, adult physicals and preventive health care. Some laboratory tests and services will be offered in St James, as well as some pharmacy services. Additional support personnel will also be needed to staff the clinic in St. James.

For the third year in a row, Madelia Health was awarded one of the Top 20 Hospitals in the country by the National Rural Health Association (NRHA) for Patient Experience. Madelia Health also operates a pharmacy, clinic and physical therapy office in Lake Crystal, a family medicine clinic in Truman, and a full-service hospital with lab, radiology, physical therapy and surgery services just down the road in Madelia.

“We are excited to expand our health care services to the City of St. James, and look forward to getting to see patients at Madelia Health – St. James Clinic,” said Walz.
