Pain Management Services at MCHC

The Madelia Community Hospital & Clinic (MCHC) is excited to announce that we are now offering pain management services. Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) Tim Klassen will be seeing patients and doing procedures at MCHC every Thursday afternoon.

Chronic pain is the most common cause of long-term disability and the most common reason that Americans access the healthcare system. Chronic pain continues for months or even years and it can come in many forms – back pain, joint or neck pain, or nerve pain. It accompanies common conditions like fibromyalgia, arthritis, migraines, cancer, endometriosis and inflammatory bowel disease. Treatment with pain management procedures can sometimes make it possible for patients to reduce or even eliminate their need for opioid pain medication.

“Persistent pain can have a profoundly negative effect on a person’s ability to perform day-today tasks,” said Klassen.

Klassen has been an anesthetist at MCHC for several years during surgical procedures. He has been performing chronic pain procedures in several other area facilities since 2014. He has a bachelor of science degree in nursing from Bethel College in North Newton, Kan.; a master of arts degree in biology from the University of Missouri in Kansas City, Mo.; and his nurse anesthesia degree from Truman Medical Center in Kansas City. Klassen did his CRNA pain management externship at Premier Pain Management in Hiawatha, Iowa, and his advanced pain management fellowship at TCU School of Nurse Anesthesia.
