Orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Angela Honstad, will be seeing patients at the Madelia Community Hospital & Clinic (MCHC) on Fridays. Dr. Honstad has a special interest in the areas of joint replacement, sports medicine, and fracture care.

“Many of our patients are in need of orthopedic surgical services like knee replacements or shoulder repairs. We want to be able to offer these innovative surgical services close to home, so Dr. Honstad’s interests fit in well with these goals,” said Jeff Mengenhausen, CEO.

Dr. Honstad is a New Ulm native. She completed her undergraduate degree at Minnesota State University, Mankato, and her medical degree and residency at the University of Minnesota School of Medicine. In 2015, Dr. Honstad was recognized with the Trauma Resident of the Year Award. She knew she wanted to work in the health care field in high school and college, and decided on orthopedics as her specialty in her final year of medical school. “I love the variety of patients and how much we are able to provide through therapies, injections, procedures, and surgery. I enjoy caring for children, teens, and adults,” said Dr. Honstad.

“I like to engage patients in shared decision making. I think it is important for patients to know what options are available and then discuss which options may be most beneficial for them,” said Dr. Honstad.

While Dr. Honstad’s practice consists primarily of treating injury or pain, she is an enthusiastic supporter of preventive medicine. She believes strongly that it is important to focus on injury prevention and maintaining musculoskeletal health throughout life.
