The Madelia Community Hospital & Clinic (MCHC) announces the addition of Nikolai Krahn to their Clinic Team. Krahn is a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP).

A PMHNP is responsible for diagnosing mental illness, interpreting data and facilitating treatment planning, including prescribing medication when needed. Krahn assesses, diagnoses, and provides mental health care to clients of all ages, with a special interest in the adolescent population. He enjoys getting to know patients and establishes a strong therapeutic relationship with them, working together to create an individualized treatment plan for their mental health care.

Krahn earned his master of science in nursing from Walden University in Minneapolis. He also has a bachelor of science in nursing from Bethel College in North Newton, Kansas. He provided mental/physical health care to residents of the Saint Peter Regional Treatment Center-Minnesota Security Hospital previously. He was also a nurse on the medical/surgical unit at the Redwood Area Hospital.

“There continues to be a significant need for mental health services and resources in rural areas. This limited access can create significant barriers that have a negative impact on a community’s mental and physical health and stability. Increasing these services is an essential objective and focus for MCHC,” said Krahn.

Krahn grew up in Mountain Lake, but now lives in North Mankato with his wife and family. He enjoys spending quality time with family and friends, watching television and movies, playing board games, and travelling.  He also enjoys a variety of foods and dreams of visiting Japan someday.
