MCHC Offers Echocardiograms for Cardiac Patients
The Madelia Community Hospital and Clinic (MCHC) is now offering echocardiograms for patients on the second Wednesday of each month, beginning in May.
Cardiac ultrasound examinations, also known as echocardiograms, are an integral tool in evaluating the health and function of the heart. These ultrasound examinations can detect structural defects or problems with the heart’s pumping abilities and provide valuable information to assist a medical provider in formulating a treatment plan that is best for the patient. The information gained from these examinations can be lifesaving because it may identify problems that can ultimately prove fatal if not treated. The results from an exam will be shared with the patient’s care provider so that treatment can begin as soon as possible.
“Diagnostic echocardiography is a vital tool in the treatment of patients with known or suspected underlying cardiac disease,” said Dr. Marc Wilkinson of MCHC. “By offering this valuable service here in Madelia we can provide appropriate treatment in a more timely manner and with greater convenience for the patient.”
Patients that have had open-heart surgery, heart stents, pacemakers, or defibrillators need to have echocardiograms done on a reoccurring basis. If a provider has requested an echocardiogram for you or a loved one, please contact the MCHC clinic by calling 507.642.5200 to set up an appointment.
MCHC also offers cardiac rehabilitation for patients recuperating from a heart attack or heart surgery. The rehabilitation program takes place in the Physical Therapy Department and typically includes monitored exercise, education, and support in making lifestyle changes like quitting smoking and adopting a healthier diet.
