Madelia Health Foundation Celebrates 30 Years of the Tree of Remembrance and Introduces New Giving Tree Tradition

MADELIA, Minn. (November 2025) — This holiday season marks a meaningful milestone for the Madelia Health Foundation as it celebrates the 30th anniversary of the Tree of Remembrance, a cherished community tradition honoring loved ones while supporting compassionate, local healthcare.

The Tree of Remembrance was first brought to life by Elsie Osborne and the Madelia Community Hospital Auxiliary, who envisioned a heartfelt way for families to remember and celebrate those who have touched their lives. Over the years, the Foundation has proudly continued that legacy, ensuring the light of remembrance shines bright each holiday season.

"I remember when the Tree of Remembrance was a real evergreen tree standing in front of the hospital before the addition was built," said Allie Kiecker, Executive Director of the Madelia Health Foundation. "The community would gather to sing carols or listen to musicians perform. We're excited to bring that sense of togetherness back this year as we celebrate this special anniversary."

The 30th Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony will take place on Friday, November 21st at 4:45 p.m. at Madelia Health. The event will begin with the lighting of the Tree of Remembrance in the hospital lobby, followed by the introduction and lighting of the Giving Tree, located in the family waiting room of the new hospital wing. Community members are invited to attend as the ceremony concludes with carolers helping to "kick off the Razzle Dazzle" celebration in downtown Madelia.

This year, the Foundation is introducing the Giving Tree — a new opportunity for giving that offers donors a more tangible way to give back and directly improve patient care. The tree features a "wish list" of items requested by hospital departments, such as therapy tools, patient comfort supplies, and diagnostic equipment upgrades. Community members can view the full wish list or make a donation by visiting www.madeliahealth.org/madelia-health-foundation-giving-tree or by texting MHFGIVING to 50155.

"Every light on the Tree of Remembrance tells a story, and every gift to the Giving Tree helps us write a new one," Kiecker said. "These traditions remind us how much our community cares for one another, and how generosity continues to make a difference close to home."
