Caregivers of the Month for October and November
Madelia, Minn. – The winner of the Caregiver of the month in October at Madelia Health was Andrew Maurer. Maurer is the Systems Architect and has worked at Madelia Health since August of 2019. He was nominated by Jamie Hitchcock, Physical Therapy Manager, and Samantha Knakmuhs, Pharmacy Technician.
Jamie stated, “Andrew was flexible in getting my staff trained.” Samantha stated, “Andrew has been so helpful in helping me figure out several computer issues with our software at the Pharmacy. He has been a lifesaver lately, and his hard work and dedication is appreciated and doesn’t go unnoticed!”
Maurer grew up in New Ulm. He is married to KayLeigh, and his family consists of daughters Alexandra and Simone, and sons Brad, Chris and Jesse. He attended South Central College and Minnesota State University-Mankato for Information Technology (IT) Studies. He also attended Strayer University for Business Management and has taken Google-sponsored certifications. Maurer is currently attending Ashworth College to further his IT skillset. His favorite past time is fishing and metal detecting with his family, and building objects with his 3D printers.
When asked what he liked the most about working at Madelia Health, Maurer said, “I like knowing that the work that I do matters, from training our staff in IT security and best practices to keep our patient’s information safe, to implementing new programs and services that aid our caregivers in providing the best patient experience possible. This is what I love about working for Madelia Health!”
The winner of the Caregiver of the month in November was Erik Murphy. Murphy is an Environmental Services (EVS) Technician and has been working at Madelia Health since November, 2022. He was nominated three times in November by three coworkers.
Chelsea Shields, Patient Services Lead, states, “Erik is always willing to address any need in EVS, consistently keeping the facility clean. He does great work!”
Tatiana Callejas, Patient Services, said, “Erik is wonderful at his job. He is always making sure everything is clean! You are doing wonderful!”
Another unnamed employee stated, “Erik is doing an awesome job keeping the rooms clean. Thanks for all of your hard work.”
Murphy grew up in Fairmont and went to St. John Vianney Catholic School. He also went to Iowa Lakes Community College in Estherville, Iowa, and then to Buena Vista University in Storm Lake, Iowa. He is currently attending Walden University online. Murphy’s family includes his parents -Jean and Pat. In his spare time, he enjoys reading and spending time with his girlfriend. He is also currently working on a few creative projects as part of his New Years’ resolutions.
When asked what he likes the most about working at Madelia Health, Murphy stated, “The friendly people, the open airy spaces, the simple and rewarding nature of the work, and the pay and benefits are the best I’ve ever had.”
Madelia Health staff members are encouraged to recognize their co-workers with SHOUT-OUTS for doing exemplary work, going above and beyond for our patients and coworkers, or just being a positive person to work with. All nominees receive a treat in recognition of their SHOUT-OUT. At the end of each month the names of the SHOUT-OUT recipients are put in a drawing for the Caregiver of the Month. The winner receives a gift card plus the honor of parking in the Caregiver of the Month parking spot. At the end of the year, the caregiver who has the most SHOUT-OUTS will be the Employee of the Year for Madelia Health.
