Madelia, Minn. –  The winner of the Caregiver of the month in July at Madelia Health was Teresa Lange. Teresa has worked at Madelia Health since 1988. She was nominated by coworker, Dana Timm, Radiology Technician.

Dana stated, “Teresa helped transfer a patient on a stretcher when I needed an extra set of hands! I really appreciate it!”

Teresa grew up in Madelia, and was born in the hospital that she currently works in. She attended the Mankato Vocational Technical School in 1982 and is a License Practical Nurse (LPN). Teresa is married to Paul, and they have three adult children – Jessica, Matthew and Rebecca. All three children work in the health care field. Her favorite past times are reading, camping and gardening.

When asked what she liked the most about her job at Madelia Health, Teresa said, “The ability to give great care to our patients. In our hometown, small hospital, you are a person, not just a number. We take pride in showing our patients that there is a reason that we are in the top 20 Critical Access Hospitals in the United States.” Teresa continued, “When I come to work, I know there are no two days alike. I love the variety of skills and knowledge that I get to use, and my coworkers are the best people to be around. I love what I do!”

The winner of the Caregiver of the month in August was Deb Simpson. Deb has been working at Madelia Health in the Environmental Services (EVS) Department since November, 2020. She actually received two nominations in August. One nomination was from an anonymous caregiver who simply said, “You rock! Thanks for being a team player!”

The second nomination was by coworker, Sarah Jones, Physical Therapy Patient Services/Aide at Madelia Health. Sarah stated, “Deb is always helpful with the laundry needs for Physical Therapy and Massage. Even when they are short staffed, she rolls with the punches and gets stuff done! Thank you! We appreciate you a lot!”

Deb moved to Madelia when she was six years old, and has lived here ever since.  She graduated from Madelia High School and attended Worthington Community College for two years. Deb is married to Todd, and their family consists of two daughters, Hailey and Heather, and Heather’s husband, Jeremy. Her favorite past time is going on pontoon rides and watching a good movie.

When asked what she likes the most about working at Madelia Health, Deb stated, “It’s exciting working for an organization that is continually growing, changing and achieving success.”

Madelia Health staff members are encouraged to recognize their co-workers with SHOUT-OUTS for doing exemplary work, going above and beyond for our patients and coworkers, or just being a positive person to work with. In July there were 14 SHOUT-OUTS, and in August there were 29 SHOUT-OUTS. All nominees receive a treat in recognition of their SHOUT-OUT. At the end of each month the names of the SHOUT-OUT recipients are put in a drawing for the Caregiver of the Month. The winner receives a gift card plus the honor of parking in the Caregiver of the Month parking spot. At the end of the year, the caregiver who has the most SHOUT-OUTS will be the Employee of the Year for Madelia Health.
