Madelia Health Welcomes Dr. Dirk Thompson as New Provider and Chief Medical Officer
MADELIA, MN – Madelia Health is pleased to announce the addition of Dr. Dirk Thompson MS, MD as a new provider and Chief Medical Officer. Dr. Thompson brings a wealth of experience to Madelia Health, and a passion for patient-centered care to the community.
Born in Rochester, MN, and as a graduate of Wadena High School, Dr. Thompson’s Minnesota roots run deep. He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Minnesota, Morris, followed by a Master’s in Biomedical Engineering from Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA. He obtained his medical doctorate from the Medical College of Ohio in Toledo, OH, and completed his residency in Family Medicine at the University of Minnesota in St. Paul.
Dr. Thompson’s clinical interests include utilizing technology to enhance patient care, with a particular focus on senior-focused (geriatric) primary care and diabetes management. He is dedicated to optimizing outpatient care to prevent the progression of chronic conditions and improve patients’ quality of life.
“I am a firm believer in optimizing outpatient care to prevent progression of chronic problems, to improve quality of life, and to reduce hospital admissions,” Dr. Thompson shared. “Acute or worsening problems are often avoidable with access to high-quality outpatient care, including conditions like pneumonia, COPD exacerbations, heart failure, diabetes, as well as hypertension and cholesterol problems causing cardiovascular comorbidities.”
Beyond his medical expertise, Dr. Thompson enjoys spending time outdoors, listening to music, cooking (and eating), and staying connected with his family by watching TikToks shared by his wife and three daughters.
