Chief Executive Officer (CEO)

Madelia Health is seeking a full-time Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Madelia Health is an award winning, fully independent, level IV-trauma center and a quickly growing 25-bed critical access hospital. The Madelia Health system has three clinics and currently adding a third, two physical therapy clinics, a retail pharmacy, surgical services, Emergency Medical Services (EMS) services and almost every aspect of healthcare. The CEO will play an integral role in enhancing Madelia Health’s market position, reputation, and visibility as an exemplary rural medical service while maintaining sharp focus on delivering the highest level of quality care and patient experience. We are seeking a strong, self-motivated leader with vision and the ability to gain commitment of others. This position will report directly to the Madelia Health Board of Directors and must work effectively with administration, managers/supervisors, medical staff, Board of Directors and the communities we serve.

Job Requirements:

  • Sets the business strategy and promotes the mission, vision and values of Madelia Health.
  • Maintains and promotes a desired culture for the organization built on communication, transparency and trust.
  • Leads in evaluation of current services and programs, proposed changes, and expansion of services and programs. Madelia Health is focused on steady and continuous growth.
  • The Madelia Health Foundation is a separate 501c3 and the CEO of Madelia Health is a Board Member.
  • Development of long and short-range hospital operations plans that may include service demand analyses, resources availability analyses and cost benefit analyses of proposed capital and staff expansions.
  • Developing and maintaining positive relations with community that the hospital is located as well as the community leaders.
  • Motivate and lead a high-performance management team; attract and recruit and retain required members of the team, including providers and provide mentoring as needed.
  • Cultivate a positive relationships with and maintain an environment of collaboration and cooperation at all levels of the organization, including the Medical Staff and the Board of Directors.
  • Has excellent communication, interpersonal, and team building skills, with a participative and empowerment management style.

Qualifications:

  • A Master’s degree in healthcare or business management (MHA/MBA) or related healthcare field is required.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in a health system and hospital management required.
  • Strong financial and operational knowledge and experience within a rural health care setting.
  • Prior experience working collaboratively with a Board, with transparency and trust and encouraging open discussion of key issues appropriate to Board levels.
  • A proven track record of supporting the development and execution of sustainable growth strategies which support the healthcare needs of the community.
  • An understanding and appreciation of complexities with rural healthcare.
  • Must understand how to motivate and inspire caregivers and providers to achieve optimal results, while keeping caregiver and provider satisfaction high.

Madelia Health is searching for a Hospital Nursing Director to join our Team. This is a Full-Time/Exempt position and hours vary based on needs of business, predominantly regular business hours.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Hospital Nursing Director is accountable for the technical and managerial functions of the med surg, emergency and surgery departments with direction from the Chief Clinical Officer.  Plans, organizes, and directs activities of the nursing staff and support staff engaged in patient care practices in accordance with Madelia Health policies, procedures and standards.  Manages and maintains standards for Trauma and Stroke designations as well as ensuring all regulatory requirements are met.  Additionally, the Hospital Nursing Director may provide direct patient care to patients on an as needed basis in all departments of oversight.

Summary of Tasks & Responsibilities: 

  • Solid understanding of budgeting, resourcing and performance evaluation procedures
  • Excellent knowledge of standards (e.g. ISO) and regulations for the area of supervision
  • Proficient in MS Office and computer systems (e.g. patient management software)
  • Excellent communication and people skills
  • Exceptional organizational and leadership skills
  • Aptitude in resolving issues and conflicts
  • Creates standard work using evidenced-based best practices to ensure safe, high-quality care.
  • Direct oversight of caregivers and operations of Emergency Department, Med Surg/Swingbed and Surgery.
  • Works collaboratively with staff to ensure staffing ratios are adequate to meet the needs and safety of caregivers and patients.
  • Maintains compliance with regulatory requirements for all surveying entities.
  • Assists in continuous staff education including but not limited to departmental orientation, evidence-based best practice implementation and ongoing skill mastery.
  • Serves as the Trauma Coordinator and maintains Level 4 Trauma designation
  • Serves as the Stroke Coordinator and maintains Acute Stroke Ready designation

Qualifications:

  • Licensure: Unrestricted MN RN License
  • Experience: 3+ years leadership experience, 5+ years Med Surg/ER and/or OR experience.
  • Education: BSN required or in progress, MSN preferred
  • Certifications: BLS, ACLS, and TNCC or CALS
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Must have a high standard of ethics, discipline and professionalism
  • The ideal candidate will possess strong critical thinking skills and aptitude to create standard work using evidenced-based best practices to ensure safe, high-quality care.

Madelia Health is looking to add an Infection Prevention/Occupational Health individual to join our team. This is a Part-Time/hourly position that is FTE:  0.75 = 30 hours per week.

Position Summary:

This individual has oversight over all infection control and prevention related activities within the organization. This individual will also be responsible for all functions of the occupational (employee) health program for Madelia Health.

Summary of Tasks & Responsibilities:

  • Must have strong computer and research skills to ensure they remain up to date with new developments, best practices and standards of care within the field of healthcare.
  • Will be required to establish standard methods of care, utilizing evidence-based practice and best practice standards.
  • Will be required to establish and implement infection control and employee health orientation programs, alongside the departmental directors, throughout the facility.
  • Responsible for policies and procedures within the organization related to infection control and employee health.
  • Ensure compliance with Antibiotic Stewardship Program
  • Responsible for required reporting both internally (QAPI meetings, Board Reports etc.) as well as to external regulatory bodies (NHSN, MDH etc.).
  • Supports administration with employee health databases, maintains complete and accurate employee health records.
  • Ensures infection prevention and control procedures are in compliance with county, state, federal, CDC, APIC requirements as well as accreditation bodies (CMS, Joint Commission, MDH, etc.),
  • Participates as an integral team member, collaborating with various departments and colleagues, including Safety Officer, Human Resources, Quality Officer and others as needed to advocate for employee health and safety
  • Coordinates the development and implementation of all employee health initiatives and programs.
  • Will develop, alongside Human Resources, policies and procedures for pre-employment and on-boarding processes for employees.
  • Will be responsible for all pre-employment testing and vaccination processes, annual N95/TB/ Influenza testing and/or vaccinations, and the management of potential blood exposures, employee illnesses and disease outbreaks.
  • Responsible for coordinating the infection control program which includes surveillance; analysis of data; developing reports, policies and procedures.
  • Use epidemiological principles and statistical methods to design, implement and evaluate infection prevention and control strategies.
  • ICRA compliance with all pertinent projects
  • Provides consultation and education to staff, physicians and community leaders in respect to Infection Prevention & Control.
  • Coordinate with the Infection Prevention and Control Committee to determine the direction of surveillance activities and actively evaluate effectiveness of the Infection Prevention and Control Plan annually.
  • Conduct risk assessments at least annually and as needed with consideration of served populations, regional vulnerabilities, relevant statistical data, and new and emerging infectious diseases.
  • Notify the County and/or State Health Department of any reportable diseases, adhering to all internal county and state procedures.
  • Develop and implement continuously improved patient care procedures and control mechanisms relating to quality, compliance and infectious diseases.
  • Participate in infection prevent and control education of all employees during orientation and annually thereafter, including classes in infection prevention and control practices and employee health.
  • Organize Infection Prevention and Control Committee meetings and maintain all meeting minutes.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in healthcare required
  • Current Minnesota RN license
  • Bachelor’s degree (BSN) highly desirable but not required
  • Must obtain APIC certification within one-year
  • Complete ICRA (Infection Control Risk Assessment) training within 6-months
  • Must be proficient and have a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, etc.).

Responsibilities:

Performs analyses on biological specimens, e.g. blood and urine, to assist health care providers in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. This position plays an important role in providing quality, proficient and professional laboratory services to diverse populations. The MT or MLT performs waived, moderate or high complexity testing, and performs quality control procedures within established parameters. This position also will be involved in laboratory specimen collection, safe and secure specimen handling, ensuring efficient workflow and providing results with integrity and timeliness. Supports and adheres to all laboratory policies and procedures. Must have excellent communication skills, and the ability to multitask.

Required Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology from an accredited institution.
Experience: Preferred at least two years hospital lab experience, but willing to train the right candidate.
Certifications: ASCP or AMT

Job Duties:

  • Evaluate outpatient, inpatients and home health care patients and determine an appropriate plan of care for physical therapy.
  • Conducts treatments using appropriate application of physical therapy techniques, education and modalities.
  • Documents therapy plan, patient treatment, and patient progress.  Delegates responsibility for certain aspects of treatment to PTA and supervises performance.
  • Plans and teaches home programs regarding the use of equipment and procedures to be continued by the patient.
  • Communicates with physician and other health care staff about patients’ program and progress.
  • Attends patient care conferences and discharge planning meetings when appropriate.

  • Graduate of an accredited Physical Therapy school
  • Passing score on the National Physical Therapy Exam
  • Must be licensed or ability to obtain a license to practice physical therapy in the state of Minnesota

Radiology Technologist – Part Time Position, 48 hours per pay period

Part time Radiologic/CT Technologist for 3 day shifts per week and to be part of call rotation, typically one weekend per month and one night per week, including holidays.

Hours: Average three 8 hour shifts per week and one weekend per month and one evening call shift per week. Weekend call hours start at 5:30 p.m. on Friday until 7:30 a.m. Monday. Weeknight call is 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. Rotating holidays (one-two holidays per year)

Salary: Dependent upon experience

Qualifications:

  • Education: Graduate of approved Radiologic Technology program
  • Experience: Two years of radiography experience required
  • Certifications: ARRT(R) certification required. Preferred ARRT(CT) certification.

Job Summary:

The Laboratory Assistant will perform phlebotomy, specimen processing, waived testing, and assist with the clerical duties of the laboratory.

Responsibilities include:

  • Verifies patient identification
  • Specimen Collection (venipuncture, swabs)
  • May perform waived testing
  • Stocks, rotates supplies, checks inventory
  • Performs proficiency testing when required

Qualifications:

Education:  High School or GED required

Madelia Health is seeking a casual/prn Nurse Practitioner who is interested in providing emergency care services at our Madelia, MN Emergency Department. This NP will provide comprehensive emergency medical care encompassing everything from acute illnesses to complex health issues and traumas in patients of all ages. The NP will work independently as well as collaborate with lead Physicians and consulting with specialists as needed. Madelia Health has a Level 4 Trauma Designation and Acute Stroke Ready Designation. Job Duties:

  • Providing and coordinating medical care for patients presenting to the emergency department and for urgent care services
  • Cross coverage of hospitalized patients required after hours, weekends and based on scheduling needs.
  • Documenting in the patient record
  • Comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, ordering, conducting and interpreting diagnostic tests, prescription of pharmacological agents and patient education.
  • Performs advanced technical procedures including laceration repair, I&D, lumbar puncture, airway stabilization etc.
  • Maintains accurate, legible, and confidential medical records.
  • Clearly communicate with all caregivers, patients and family to ensure safe, high-quality care is provided
  • Focused on patient access as well as patient and family experience.

Job Type: Casual/PRN, rotating days/nights/weekends/holidays, 12-hour shifts

Minimum Qualifications, Education and Experience:

  • Masters prepared graduate of an accredited school of nursing and Nurse Practitioner program
  • Must have 2+ years of experience as a Nurse Practitioner in an acute care/emergency department setting.
  • Current Minnesota RN and APRN license (or ability to obtain) and certification as FNP
  • Current Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) certification

General Responsibilities:

  • Review Menus prior to preparation of food.
  • Ensure that menus and alternates are compiled in accordance with established policies and procedures.

  • Assist daily in cleaning schedule duties.
