Madelia, Minn. – Madelia Health announces the addition of Dermatologist Dr. John H. Bocachica to our growing list of visiting specialty providers. Bocachica is a board-certified dermatologist and cutaneous surgeon and a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology. He specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of skin, hair, and nail diseases, such as eczema, acne, psoriasis, moles, skin cancers, hair loss, and nail abnormalities. He is also a cutaneous surgeon and cosmetic surgeon with special expertise in removal of skin lesions. He also specializes in a variety of cosmetic procedures including chemical peels and Juvéderm filler designed to correct skin flaws associated with chronic sun exposure and aging.

Dr. Bocachica graduated from the prestigious Bronx High School of Science as a National Merit Scholarship semi-finalist, and completed his undergraduate studies at Wesleyan University in Connecticut. He graduated as a Pfeiffer Scholar with degrees in biology, pre-medicine, and romance languages. Bocachica then attended medical school at the State University of New York at Stony Brook as a Robert Woods Johnson Scholar. He obtained his medical degree in only three years, rather than the usual four, and graduated as one of the youngest physicians in the country.

After an internship in Internal Medicine in New York, Dr. Bocachica joined the United States Public Health Service, and spent three years in rural Alaska and Anchorage as a general medical officer. Following his residency in dermatology at The United States Public Health Service Hospital in New York and the University of California-Irvine, Dr. Bocachica served as the Medical Director of the Special Diseases Clinic in Southern California, supervising the management of diseases of public health concern for several years. His love of Alaska and quest for adventure lured him back to private practice in Juneau and Anchorage in 1985. He also holds several teaching positions including academic professorships in dermatology and medicine from academic institutions.

Dr. Bocachica is happily married and has two sons. He has a background in the performing arts including acting and singing, and has appeared in several local productions in Alaska.
